Hear the Showa spoken in Japanese by Norika Rossi.

The Showa is a poem authored by O'Sensei and spoken in unison at the conclusion of each class. Originally written in Japanese, it is impossible to accurately translate into English as many Japanese words and phrases do not have a direct translation. The simple English translation written below is intended to provide the student with a starting point in which to begin to understand its essence. It is expected that through a lifetime of training, a deeper understanding of the Showa will be fostered.

We  who  study  Karate-do

Should  never  forget  the  spirit  of  the  warrior's  way.

With  peace,  perseverance,  and  hard  work,

We  will  not  fail  to  reach  our  goal.
